SPEED REPORT
Safety and operational efficiencies are extremely important,
and for the most part companies do a decent job within the
office structure. However, companies often lose money because
of driver productivity issues, or they are being sued because
they do nothing to insure their field work force is under control
and driving safely. In additional company owners and direct
managers are being sued for negligence because they are directly
or indirectly responsible for directing the daily activities
of their drivers. Unfortunately, that’s not where this story
ends. The company and managers might also be exposed to a law
suit by the driver that got into the accident, even if the
driver was at fault.
WHY?
From the drivers perspective; you never give him enough
time, he’s under a lot of pressure to get to the next customer
location, he’s in survival mode, afraid of losing his job,
and that’s why he has to speed.
The reality is he finished
the job early and went home or to the store or to Starbucks
for a Latte; he then called in and told you that he just left
the customer. After about 30 minutes at Starbucks, he looks
at his watch and realizes he's late for his next appointment.
He jumps into your vehicle and speeds to your next customer
location. On the way he gets into an accident and blames you.
You get sued by your driver, the person he hurts and their
family.
In court you lose your company and all your
personal assets because you were proven negligent; you did nothing
to insure your guys were driving safely. Your corporate umbrella
was pierced and your liability and umbrella policies will not
protect you against negligence. Because your corporate umbrella
was pierced you were also sued personally and lost.
